The 509 was Fiat's first realistic attempt to create a popular car, with just one liter of displacement, running costs never so low and a price that was finally affordable. A sober sedan, a practical torpedo, but also a refined spider and useful taxi, it broke all sales records, paving the way towards mass motorization.
